Produced in Irvine California. Maruchan is a brand name for Toyo Suisan with plants in California, Richmond Virginia and Bexar County Texas. Maruchan is a Japanese word with two parts. Maru meaning "round" such as a child's face, conveying friendliness, and "chan" an honorific suffix conveying affection or a term of endearment.
This is a short bowl but the amount of noodles is satisfying. The package of vegetable is ridiculously sparse and the sauce is mildly flavored but very satisfying by itself. I added soy sauce for oomph. I also added more corn and peas.
Tonkotsu is a pork ramen, a specialty of Fukuoka prefecture located on the northern shore of Kyushu. This is different from Tonkatsu which is a deep-fried panko-breaded pork cutlet, a form of yoshoku which is a Japanese version of western cuisine with a sauce made from catsup, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, mirin, garlic and ginger. This was basically to appeal to Americans living in Okinawa, although started by Portuguese influence. The tell is catsup.
The ramen is very good.
The noodles are thin, flat and wavy.
Amazon pack of six for $7.89. It's totally worth it.
