Napa cabbage with shrimp

A little ramekin is set aside with:

* 3 T soy sauce
* 1 T fish sauce
* 1 T sake
* 2 T mirin
* 1 T rice vinegar
* 1/2 T toasted sesame seed oil
* 1 T sugar

There is a lot of shrimp in there, but I only wanted three. Ever try to peel away three frozen shrimp from a large clump of frozen shrimp? Part of the clump is thawing and the other part isn't so that it can be returned to the freezer.

That freezer sure is a marvelous invention. Whoever invented refrigeration was pfft totally out there. You have to be a little bit strange to even think like that. All human history goes by and then finally someone invents something that changes the way the entire world manages their food.

Ever see Yurapeen refrigerators? Asian refrigerators?

I pity da foos with tiny refrigerators.

Where do they put their watermelon? How do they air-dry a turkey in one of those things? Where do they put all the yogurt they made but didn't eat until it is thrown out? Where do they put their mushrooms until they all go damp? Where do they put their experimental marinated hard boiled eggs in pickle juice that eventually gets thrown out? Where do they store their leaks until they all go soft and get tossed? Where do they store their stack of frozen pizzas, where is their ice maker? Where do they keep their jars of miso? Huh? Where? Where do they put their massive amounts of celery and cucumber and carrots and kale and spinach for juicing? Where? You need a big refrigerator or else you must go to the store everyday. I wonder how these poor souls get on.

In America it is reasonable to purchase two Arctic freezers to hold only your ice cream.

It's a very good selection of ice cream.

Last Friday two friends dropped by for awhile. They were making food deliveries for Angel Heart in my neighborhood. One of them opened my freezer and exclaimed, "He has two half gallons of Tillamook ice cream in here." Seems odd for one person.

        "I make a lot of milkshakes."
