This is the first time I ever bought American cheese, and the first time I ever bought cheese pre-sliced and individually wrapped. It seems like something for kids. What self-respecting cheese maker will color their product orange? That doesn't even make sense. But then I heard well-known chef on TV declare that the cheese that tops hamburgers must be, MUST be, American cheese and that forced me to give it a try. Turns out, it's not altogether bad, although one immediately thinks of a hundred alternative real cheeses that would make an improvement.
